The January 6, 2021 attack on our Capital Building was partially a result of the proliferation of sham news outlets just like the Buffalo Chronicle. This false news outlet founded by former Buffalo mayoral candidate Matthew J. Ricchiazzi in 2018 comes across as a slick sophisticated news source; however, it would be hard to find any elements of truth. What frightens me is that even my friends who are deemed sophisticated are falling into its trap. It’s false and damaging news is spreading like wild fire across social media.
